T-Bone — Tha Life of a Hoodlum

Christian hip-hop is danceable. With this premise begins the artistic career of Rene Sotomayor aka Bones bka T-Bone, initially part of the group JC Crew, then a soloist since 1993, when he debuted with his own album.

Two years later, a sequel arrives. Mista Grimm is the only guest on the project, there are an infinite number of backing singers to sweeten the hooks and focus strongly on the mainstream crossover market between Christian rap and gangsta rap. Production is primarily done by Muffla, along with Dr. K, E-Swift, T-Bone, K-Rhythm, Bobcat, Chase and DJ Mello D.

The record contains 73 full minutes of gangster-influenced, braggadocio-filled Christian hip hop music. The West Coast production is pretty solid and good for most of the listen, with some interesting samples and peaks in "Thief in Tha Night", "Drunk in tha Spirit" and "Too Many Pleitos". The rest doesn't impress too much, T-Bone presents his second solo effort with better rapping than his debut and with below average lyrics that could easily tell you nothing.

Published by the Christian label Metro One Recordings, distributed by the independent Diamante Music Group, overall, it's a tape that could be of interest to fans of that rap, but negligible for everyone else.

Rating: 5/10.
