Poor Righteous Teachers — Poor Poverty
The Poor Righteous Teachers release their second effort under Profile Records, easily inferior to the debut and overall, not very good. It has no particular weaknesses, but it's not too strong either, there are too many dancehall / reggae influences dictated by commercial attempts that prevent it from being among the best efforts of the year. The album remains partly conscious, with wise lyrics from the group and a decent flow on funky and hard rhythms made by Tony D, but the rapping of Wise Intelligent is marked by a reggae cadence that if you can't digest isn't particularly enjoyable. The excellent samples save the bandwagon, accidentally for the title track the choice of the sample is unhappy and the delivery of the group is poor on a weak rhythm. 6/10.
