Public Enemy — Greatest Misses

Disc that marks the fall of the group. Def Jam throws out this six-cut EP, throwing in six bad remixes and a live song, in order to monetize this clearly low period for the group.

Chuck D delivers with his slow and syncopated style, but instead of sounding hardcore, his bars feel calm, light over these ridiculous beats made by Bomb Squad, Kerwin Young, Paul Shabazz, Strong Island Sounds, Imperial Grand Ministers of Funk and By Hitt Mobb. They all suck without exception, the delivery of performers is never aggressive and these beats are practically never fit with delivery, they all look extravagant and they all sound bland, quiet, mediocre: "Get Off My Back" is the only rhythm that seems to go on hardcore sounds with an almost decent boom bap, instead ends up being closer to dance than hardcore, with a lukewarm drum machine and light delivery of Chuck D.

"Hazy Shade of Criminal" should be the best track, but it suffers of the worst rhythm of these six tunes, it has an annoying production to listen to. The second part of this product is made up of remixes of their classics and behind the keyboards come Damon Dollarz, Jam Master Jay, Chy-Skillz, Jeff Trotter, Salaam Remi, DJ Chuck Chillout, Sir Jinx and Greg Beasley: practically, a showcase for emerging producers, however every single remix has a ridiculous and lo-fi production, they're all bad from first to last, what a disappointment. Closes "Shut Em Down" live, but overall this record is the bad listen it seems to be, it doesn't even deserve to be cataloged as a Public Enemy record.

Rating: 6/10.
