Studio debut album by Antonia "Bahamadia" Reed, rapper from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She's a member of the Gang Starr Foundation and later a founding member of the Army of the Pharaohs.
The guests are Black Thought, K-Swift and Mecca Star, while the production team is enviable and consists of Gang Starr, Da Beatminerz, N.O. Joe, The Roots, DJ Redhanded and DJ Ski. The music of these artists can often be classified as lounge, fluid, pleasantly relaxed, with an attentive and not rowdy drum and samples that are as melodic as possible even when they're funky. The lyrics are mainly braggadocio and battle rap. Bahamadia's rapping style is regular, precise and velvety, sometimes a bit monotonous, often exactly fitting with the rhythmic solutions chosen by the producers. There are also a couple of healthier choices for sales (the album is published on the Gang Starr label, Chrysalis, major distribution with EMI, reaching the top 15 of hip-hop records) rather than for the cohesion of the project, which remains an enjoyable listening with three quarters of an hour of good hip-hop music performed by one of the best female rappers of the nineties. 7.5/10.
