Debut EP for DJ Zirk, rapper from Memphis, Tennessee. The author keeps the tape exclusively in Memphis, producing the entire work himself and calling to the rapping local performers: Tony Down, Tom Skeemask, Buckshot and Kilo G (the latter two have the same moniker as two other more famous rappers).
Intro on muddled noise, then Tony Down is the first guest on the cassette in "Lock 'Em n da Trunk": minimal rhythm, slow lean drum, strange sample, dark vibes, slow syncopated delivery of performer, simple hook. The title track is a better tune, production consisting of dark samples and dark horn, synthesized delivery by Tom Skeemask, spits bars with a decent style, then closes Buckshot, with a hardcore and rough, dominant style.
To follows "Dedication", it comes the fifth track: an eclectic rhythm left to breathe, dark loop, single line combined with other spoken lines. Kilo G is the guest on "Ana 4 Ya Hoez", a six-minute underground classic: the song boasts a messy, whipping and tearing drum machine, simple hook, haunting and enveloping samples, calm and slow delivery of Kilo G, crisp, enthralling. Skit, then "Azzout": honest boom bap, lacerating and slow drum, good horn sample, effective slow syncopation delivery by Tony Down and Kilo G.
Disc composed of 8 joints for a total of about half an hour of listening, it's a solid gangsta tape, with some good moments. 7/10.
