Debut album by Maxmillian Levec Kunitz, rapper of German origins, born in Sacramento, known under the moniker of Sicx and also known for extra-rap events, but I will get there towards the end, I guess. The production is made by Sicx himself and by E-Mo, and the record doesn't feature guests. The rapper is half-brother of Brotha Lynch Hung.
The production bogs the album into mediocrity from the very beginning: there are squeaky and tight g-funk synths in the first track, a skinny and tight drum, and on the hook there's an explosion of random sounds. The following rhythms can only improve and some do, guaranteeing Sicx a good musical carpet on which to kick some violent bars: the boy deals with topics close to both gangsta and horrorcore, including various gangsterisms, murders, anti-police extracts, drugs, guns, women, sex, various misogyny. It's all pretty intuitive from the tracklist, actually.
The guy has a fairly competent rap style, but he does nothing to set himself apart from the other competitors and appears to be just yet another generic MC in the game, at the end of the day. The beats don't help him and Sicx seems to find his best moments with a limited playing time, where the music is more melodic and quiet ("Back Door", "Momma Crack"); the exception is the title track, whose production and rapping are easily superior to almost everything else.
The album is released by Insane Records and Black Market Records: the boy seems to be able to move towards a decent rap career, he's not a phenomenon, he's not the new face of the scene or anything like that, but he has the connections to get by with the music as "first job". Nonetheless, in 2001 he was sentenced to 32 years in prison for child abuse, rape and child pornography, prematurely ending his career.
