Debut studio album by Psycho Gangsta, rapper from San Francisco, California. The tape boasts a good number of guest appearances, especially on side A: D-Moe, Keylo, Reese Dog, Hugh EMC, JT, Jumpin' J, OC Dre, Angie, Greg and BoBo. Beats are provided by Greg Singletary, D-Love, JT the Bigga Figga, Mr. Laid and Psycho Gangsta. All the people involved in the project are originally from San Francisco, many from the Fillmore neighborhood, with the notable exception of rapper Angie from Oakland.
The effort isn't obvious to translate into words. Born around the jackin, hence the title, and it immediately begins to take on different ramifications, being influenced by too many things without being able to maintain its own sound: the heart is mobb music from the Bay, but it doesn't disdain g-funk synthesizers that could have emerged a little liquid and rusty from the villas of Calabasas, the lyrics are here light-hearted, here committed and even border on horrorcore after looking excessively towards Houston.
Overall, this remains a pretty interesting effort from an emerging San Francisco artist. The cassette is released by Keylo's Rat-Ta-Tat Records, the tape's main guest, and features fourteen quite solid and well-produced tracks. In 1995 it's reissued on CD and four songs are removed, "Life", "And It's Bloody", "No Studio Gangsta" and "Old Dope Game". 7/10.
