Dannell Stevens is the third member of Click La Familia to debut a solo studio album after Brandt "B-Legit" Jones and Tenina "Suga T" Stevens, preceding Earl "E-40" Stevens, all with the first LP in 1993.
The family helps him complete the album which also includes "external" guests Mac Shawn and Mugzi, both from Vallejo. D-Shot has obvious technical gaps, but his generic gangsta record remains competent thanks to the numerous appearances of his brother E-40, who manages to keep at least half an album afloat along with other guests and relatives: in solo joints, D-Shot is in clear difficulty to bring the songs home.
"The Shot Loves to Fuck" is one of brutal evidence, when after three solid tracks, D-Shot emerges solo delivering weakly on a ridiculous and annoying video game sample. It's probably the only smudge that Studio Ton has left behind the keyboards, because for the rest of the 40 minutes, he does a decent job placing good funky rhythms with sometimes glossy and mobb samples. The tape is closed by a enjoyable light instrumental. Published by Sick Wid' It, the album gets a Jive distribution via Zomba which allows it to enter the rap chart, not going beyond the top 50.
Rating: 6/10.
