Casual — Big Head Science

Casual releases an unexpected comeback album in spring 2020, a period of full pandemic. The boom of the digital market allows an artist who has gone under the radar and almost forgotten during the last decade like him to return to have his say on the hip-hop circuit like other artists. The Oakland emcee focuses on a production close to the East Coast that favors its clean rapping, flanked by guests such as Phesto, Tajai, Izrell, Tristate, Ras Kass, Rame Royal, Planet Asia, Ghostface Killah and Killah Priest. Despite a somewhat stiff second part ending with the splendid bonus track "Doing Me Wrong", the record is quite solid and is one of his best projects in almost thirty years: Casual proves that he's fully in shape and creates an effort that is a must-listen for his fan niche.

Rating: 6/10.
