Christopher "MC Cee" McKinney and Eric "DJ Mental" Menal form the duo Brothers uv da Blakmarket from Paterson, New Jersey. Their only studio album is released by Select Records, but it was neither commercially nor critically successful. The production is entirely done by the group themselves, except for the fourth and ninth cuts, where the rhythm is provided by the Naughty Boys. The group is discovered by Naughty by Nature, of which they mimic the sound, themes and style of rapping.
After the intro comes a simple boom bap with skinny syncopated drum on which the duo delivers hardcore with a flowing style. Another skit, then "Livin' in da Bottle", cut against alcohol, with a smooth hardcore delivery on light jazzy boom bap and tight syncopated skinny drum machine. The following tune has a jazzy boom bap rhythm with tight, pounding drum and a relaxed smooth delivery.
The sixth song is as decent as the previous ones, skinny, syncopated and pounding drum machine, beat similar to the previous ones, slow syncopated delivery. "Ruff Neck Style" has a better-than-usual jazzy boom bap, hard, skinny and syncopated drum machine, slow syncopated delivery from this unknown duo. The record starts to suffer a little with generic choices in the middle, simple jazzy boom bap rhythms with slow syncopated skinny tight drums and slow, smooth syncopated deliveries.
After a third skit, the title track arrives: obscure piano opening this track, simple jazzy boom bap, syncopated skinny drum machine, syncopated slow delivery, single piano key looped in the background. The following is the musically best track, probably, "I Ain't Da One": simple production, sax sample looped in the background, light jazzy boom bap, sparse syncopated drum machine, honest slow syncopated smooth delivery even if the lyrics don't help too much. "Collette Da Pet" has decent rhythm, jazzy boom bap with lean syncopated drum and the usual duo delivery. Overall, it's a decent East Coast album, after which the group disappeared.
