Debut album by Brandt Jones, rapper from Vallejo cousin of E-40, part of the family group The Click. The production of the disc is entirely performed by Studio Ton, while E-40 is the main guest of the edition, with six appearances. The other guests are Little Bruce, Mac Shawn and Levitti.
The music chosen by Studio Ton is simply decent: these funky boom baps are generic and forgettable, composed of lean drums, listless, dry, heavy, midtempo and cheap, combined with relaxed and honest mobb samples to support B-Legit the Savage gangsta bars. This dude spits g-rap themes, booze, weed, drugs, women, braggadocio, street life, g-thangs, all with a mainly slow, syncopated, poor, weak and lazy style. Poor mixing doesn't help. E-40 occasionally saves joints ("Way Too Vicious", title track, "Late Nighter") with his excellent eclectic delivery style.
Distributed by Sic Wid' It, the disc is released on March 2, 1993 (re-issue by Jive in 1995): it gets a good success and comes close to the top 40 among rap records. Composed of 14 tracks and 58 minutes of listening, the album sees B-Legit mumbling things without desire for an hour on mobb rhythms: he proves to be devoid of real technical and lyrical skills, as well as not being able to hold an hour-long LP almost alone, his solo moments are pretty weak. Recommended for bay area fans, isn't an essential listen, 5.5/10.
