Zhigge — Zhigge

Zhigge from Harlem, Manhattan, is a group of... is it a group? Really? Ah... The production is entirely made by Salaam Remi, at his career debut: his rhythms are decent and inconsistent.

The first is simple, functional to the light-hearted delivery of performers, with a typical lo-fi drum machine. "Harlem" has a decent funky boom bap, light-hearted, syncopated and quick delivery by the group, ft. Oran Jones (uncredited). Their rapping is positive and optimistic, they are closer to the hippies-alt rap than the hardcore of the rest of the scene. "No Time to Fess" has decent rhythm ruined by an annoying sample.

The fourth song seems to be going pretty well, decent smoothness delivery on decent funky boom bap, but this dude decides to sample Syl Johnson's "Different Strokes", inevitably ruining this song as well. There's also an annoying sample in the next track and "Drop the Beat Salaam!!" it's a bad instrumental, which should give you the urge to say "stop dropping beats, Salaam, please!!"

Skit, then comes probably Remi's first decent rhythm: he doesn't disappoint and places a hip house / hip dance production for this ballad / new jack cut by Zhigge, with backing vocalist Kysia Bostic at the functional hook and decent delivery of the group. "Make Ya Hips Hop" features a simple funky beat with fast-paced, tight drumming, decent delivery. The decent jazzy remix of "Toss It Up", with a great jazzy sample, is the prelude to the end of this anonymous, mediocre and irregular album: skit, two decent funky tracks, skit outro. Project produced by Polydor, foreseeable commercial flop.

Rating: 5/10.
