Debut album for Curtis Davis aka Big Mello (Screwed Up Click), rapper from Houston, Texas. The production is made almost entirely by Crazy C and the disc is released by Rap-A-Lot, a label that allows it to get a place in the back rows of the US charts, right near the exit from the theater.
Big Mello follows the great trend of the period and tackles generic g-shit topics, tying himself mainly to the pimp theme, on simplistic, hard and funky rhythms, with decent funky samples ("Love Don't Love Nobody" presents "Be Alright" by Zapp as a sample, in 1992, however, it's one of the most sampled songs in hip-hop; it composes a light rhythm with jazzy vibes). There's often a lean, heavy, syncopated drum machine, and a simple, slow, syncopated delivery from the rapper. The first part is quite coherent, then the middle part is full of similar, mediocre and unnecessary tunes, so in the final the disc becomes weaker. It would be a better LP around twelve tracks and with several less mediocre choices, there are some rare strong points, but they're not strong enough to recommend listening to them. 6/10.
