Street Military — Don't Give a Damn EP

Street Military maintains its winning formula for the creation of the third consecutive EP. The tape consists of seven tracks (one outro) and a total of over half an hour of listening. At the mic are Icey Hott, K.B. From Kidnappa, Lil' Flea, Pharoah and Nutt, as well as Klondike Kat, South Park Coalition affiliate present as a guest of "Gasta Get Paid".

Lirically, the album revolves around gangsta themes, crime, drugs, hardcore stanzas. Icey Hott provides scratches, keyboards and the entire production: his work is minimal and accessible, and he tries to reward the melody, using simple, skeletal and southern drums, honest samples, discrete loops, shrill synths, g-funk and sometimes melodic, which could also be annoying to the unaccustomed ear.

Somehow, Street Military goes from being an independent act to signing for Wild Pitch, which releases this EP boasting a Capitol / EMI distribution. Consequently, it's another hidden gem in the Wild Pitch catalog: probably, the most captivating cut is "Don't Play With a Gun", which among melancholy strings, functional chorus, slow rap and sick loops, gives me many Memphis vibes, personally. The tape, however, is all-strong, really well-done by the guys, perhaps their best work, 7.5/10.
