Papoose hasn't gotten much attention as a rapper since... he never got much attention as a rapper. This, due to problems with the labels that didn't facilitate his career, despite a brilliant talent.
This is an album, mixtape, I don't know. It's self-released, produced entirely by Brady Watt (the last track is credited to Mel Staxx) and features live instrumentation performed by Brady Watt (bass, drums), Carlos Homs (piano, keyboards, strings, a couple of synths), Jeffandy St. Hubert (guitar) and Percs (flute, percussion). The title is the same as one of the Big Pun albums.
His talent is undeniable. If you pay attention you see that it's still there, somewhere. The production of this project is erratic and stretches out trying to attract more audience than it can afford. The rap is there, even if Papoose isn't very concentrated, not very inspired, he advances effortlessly. The rhythms which sound better are in "Cobra Scale", "Kickback" (killed by Conway) and in "Maturity", the rest are forgettable, "Workin" included. Number of tracks and playing time is the ideal dimension of him, perhaps with better beats, a more robust rapping and a more careful choice in the guest section, the boy would be able to churn out a more consistent album.
Rating: 5/10.
