Tenth extended play for Hus Kingpin, seventh effort in 2020, first work of the year for Roc 'C'. The rappers call Fashawn and Kurupt as guests of the tape, while production is provided by Local Astronauts, Stu Bangas, Dae One, The Alchemist and Madlib.
Dark and tense violins in the background open the tape, slow drum, rhythm provided by Stu Bangas, good delivery by the two rappers. Local Astronauts offers a not particularly excellent rhythm, not very livable and accessible, distant drum slow and tight, hard in the background, the rappers aren't really fit here. It follows the beat of Madlib, alternative boom bap with curious samples and of limited duration and extravagant drum, the flow of Roc is smooth, Hus is slower, closes Fashawn in a decent way, but no one was particularly fit even here.
"Facemask" is one of the best cuts, Dae One rhythm, female soul sample in the background, slow drum, almost spoken delivery of Hus Kingpin, more energetic the one of Roc. The tape is closed by "The Fight Club", Alchemist's jazzy choice, sublime light jazzy samples, ethereal and wonderful, distant drum in the background, Hus delivers his bars with a slow and flowing style, always close to spoken word, with homage to Method Man; slow Roc 'C', then Kurupt, slow, rough, decent-good; Roc and Hus close the track.
EP of about 20 minutes with 5 cuts and a level productive cast: the two MCs concretize the rhythms proposed to them with tight bars and slow flows.
Rating: 7/10.
