Gucci Mane and the New 1017 — So Icy Gang, Vol. 1 [mixtape]

Second showcase in the year for the artists of 1017 Records, the Gucci Mane label. The founder shows up on 11 tracks to pull the disc, occasionally leaving the reins to Pooh Shiesty (8; one soloist), Foogiano (7), Big Scarr (6; two soloists). The other guests are Tay Keith, Mulatto, K Shiday, Enchanting, Roboy, Veeze, Quentin Miller and Key Glock.

On a bad trap production, made by several amateurs, that sounds poor and all the same for nearly an hour, these guys swap bars in battle rap with the usual generic arguments you can find on every rap album and a quite similar style than not allows you to distinguish one from the other. Obviously Foogiano stands out. Obviously Pooh Shiesty after a while maybe he can distinguish himself from the others, it's almost his album.

Gucci Mane often sounds better than other guys. Nevertheless, among the best, there's also Mulatto, young MC from Columbus, Ohio, who's able to better interpret the rhythm of "Meeting", sounding better than the other rappers on a melodic trap rhythm with excellent flow. Her lyrics leave something to be desired, it's the typical female dirty rap inspired by Foxy & Kim, even if written [and performed] better. In general, in these 19 songs there's little material for those who aren't a fan of Gucci and / or the Brick Squad.

Rating: 4/10.
