Sonya C — Married to the Mob

I wouldn't go too hard on this album that comes from Sonya Cassandra Miller, at the time part of TRU and wife of Master P, later mother of Lil' Romeo. She's not credible, starting from the cover: Sonya C in evidence, she holds a cellphone in her right hand and a garter gun on her left one, questionable glasses, album title held up by a yellow tommy gun which is itself above the writing "Featuring: The Real Untouchables", so it's TRU here. Then, almost forgotten, a quote from a certain Miss Alcapone, who explains that this record is a proof that being "married to the mob" is not easy, but Sonya C can do it because she is tough. Yup.

But it's up to Master P to open the disc in the extravagant intro and fully support the project from the beginning to the final thanks during all these thirty-five minutes and eleven cuts. The production is made entirely by EA-Ski & CMT, who also take care of the mixing, while the lyrics are pseudo-gangsta, presumably all written by Master P.

Sonya C can't hold the tape alone, also because she can't spit: "Life Ain't Nothing But a Game" has a slow and glossy, indecent ballad rhythm, with a lean and syncopated drum machine, very slow, that Sonya C interprets with a spoken delivery. The next track is a hip dance instrumental tune after a short intro, followed by "Married to the Mob (Part 1)": wacky rhythm, honest drum, wacky sung hook and sung-spoken delivery in an attempt to go light rapping. Does not work.

But possibly, the next song is even worse: cheap and dark beat, skeletal, slow, syncopated and pounding drum machine, spoken delivery of Sonya C backed up by spoken / light rapping from Master P. Piece number six has a cheap and pseudo-mafia production, skinny slow syncopated drum machine not suited to this rhythm, more suited to a lo-fi country track, Sonya C's spoken-sung delivery, confused chorus.

There are also cheap synths scattered around the simplistic "Break It" chorus, with cheap hip house beat and Sonya C providing some slow spoken lines. Skit, then second part of "Married to the Mob": simple rhythm, very slow drum machine, slow spoken delivery, simple hook and annoying and high-pitched synths, shrill and scattered everywhere in the background during the performance of this song, but especially near of the chorus.

"I Ain't to Be Fucked With" features TRU: slow and skinny syncopated drum machine, simple hook, kind-of-mafia rhythm, tense and dark, decent delivery of the group, bad as usual Sonya C, who here she looks like a mysterious object outside even his own album; for the record, C-Murder dominates and kills the cut, Silk, Master P and Challi G were also present. Then, close the thanks where, ironically, there's the only rapping delivery of Sonya C in the whole disk, on an indecent music as usual.

This album is very weak, poorly weak, probably one of the worst records in No Limit. Absolutely not recommended. 3/10.
