Master P — 99 Ways to Die

Master P's fourth studio album. Production is provided by Lil Ric, Master P, K-Lou, CMT & E-A-Ski, Larry D and Al Eaton. Guests are C-Murder, Silk, King George, Big Ed, Lil Ric, EA Ski, Rally Rall and Simply Dre, uncredited in "Playa wit Game".

The music is sparse, minimal, uninspired, with a weakly falling downtempo drum, bored samples that unnecessarily lengthen the tracks (the second shortest is four and a half minutes) and the album up to fifty-two minutes of listening, despite being seven songs, a bonus track, a remix for the radio, plus four skits.

It's his fourth album in four years and it seems to have been set up exclusively to maintain this average and to keep his name alive on the circuit: his rap style sounds milder than ever, his thug bars come out on autopilot on these generic West Coast beats. On his latest album recorded in California (between LA, Oakland, Richmond and El Cerrito), Master P addresses his prayers to the new prophet of rap, g-funk: released by his No Limit and distributed by Priority, the record somehow enters the top 50 of rap albums and allows him to continue and strengthen his career in the business.

Rating: 5/10.
