Malik "Shawty Pimp" Shannon leads the listener to discover Memphis rap from another perspective, that of pimping, rarely approached in Bluff City.
The rapper produces the entire cassette, while the guests are MC Spade, Lil West, Reddog, Euphoria Click and Mista K. MC Spade & Lil West compose Da Hype Click with Shawty Pimp. The first section of the tape is stronger than the second, with several great tracks and a confident and energetic rap on a great production.
Reddog signs one of the high points in "1 Mean Stang": smoothness rhythm, light samples, perfect hard midtempo drum, flawless boom bap, smooth and regular slow delivery of the two performers. This is followed by several robust cuts performed by Euphoria Click and Da Hype Click on light and melodic productions that boast a dominant and accessible snare drum, perfect midtempo drum machines and regular rapping. "Pimpin' Still Goin' On" is one of MC's few solo pieces, which he delivers with velvety style on a very good production, excellent samples, perfect midtempo drum, haunting loop. In the second part, it seems that his energy diminishes and his flow becomes lazy, particularly in the tracks with MC Spade, where even the downtempo drum sounds tired and poor. In this section, Reddog is present in one of the most successful songs, "Can't Play No Playa".
Composed of 14 songs and 46 minutes, it's released on cassette by independent in 1995 and then remastered by Gyptology in 2018. Interesting tape, recommended for Memphis rap fans.
Rating: 7/10.
