Fifth effort of the year 38 Spesh, instrumental tape that collects some of his best rhythms as a producer.
The first beat is an excerpt from a Che Noir track with Klass Murda, "Section", jazzy boom bap, good samples, decent snare drum combined with slow and lean drum. "Paper Trail" by Spesh & Benny is slightly better: instrumental lasting less than a minute, splendid jazzy boom bap with elegant piano samples and slow drum machine. The third cut is another track by Klass Murda and Che Noir, featuring Benny the Butcher, jazzy boom bap with lean vibrating drum, good piano looped in the background and strings samples around what should be the hook. "Dark Nights" is the first instrumental that the producer takes from his solo song, jazzy production, energetic and hard vibrating drum machine, splendid elegant piano.
The beat of "Few More Holes" is short, jazzy boom bap, guitar riff with amp, dark jazzy samples, slow drum: the track originates from a piece by Black Geez with 38 Spesh, Klass Murda and Eto, Spesh's production has more elements than usual and, personally, I don't feel it's up to the others. From the intro of "Loyalty + Trust" with Flee Lord, the beatmaker extracts a jazzy soundscape with pounding hard drum machine and good samples. "Black Horns" boasts a beautiful elegant piano, slow and energetic drum machine, which precedes "Hurt Souls", great beat with a lean energetic syncopated drum, strings in the background and blessed by a female soul sample in the background. Track nine is from Che Noir ft. Termanology, jazzy rhythm with good horn and a slow drum. 38 Spesh's tape ends with a splendid sample of flute, strings, slow and energetic drum, extracted from the joint that celebrated Rochester with Eto.
28-minute mixtape, 10 instrumental choices jazzy boom bap: no beat will contend for the title of rhythm of the year, but it's an honest and pleasant compilation, which demonstrates that 38 Spesh's name is among the most talented and successful in the construction of jazzy skeletal productions. 7/10.
