Styliztik Jones x DirtyDiggs — The Legend of Zelzah EP

Collaborative EP between rapper Styliztik Jones and producer DirtyDiggs, both of LA. This is the first project for the MC in 2020, while DirtyDiggs signs his effort number eleven over the course of the year. Defari & Heavy are the only guests on the tape, which is a tribute to the videogame series "The Legend of Zelda".

The title track boasts a jazzy boom bap with hard, pounding slow drum and light samples, Jones delivers with a slow, syncopated style, while the hook is cleverly left to the sample. The next track features a freshly light rhythm, with a slow drum and decent sample, mundane hook and discreet rapper delivery. DirtyDiggs places a tightly looped female soul sample in the background for the third track, with a lean, pounding drum and horn sample around the chorus. Jones continues to produce bars with slow, syncopated rapping in the following track as well: Defari and Heavy don't ruin the jazzy rhythm, but add little to the track. The EP is closed by "Keep the Change", jazzy boom bap with chopped and looped female soul samples and light drum, Styliztik Jones doesn't change his style.

Composed of 5 tracks for a total of about 16 minutes, the EP is accessible, but it's not an essential listening among the many projects released during the season by DirtyDiggs. 6/10.
