Styles P — Styles David: Ghost Your Enthusiasm

Studio album by Yonkers rapper Styles P. Noah Styles and Dayzel the Machine are the main producers, the rest of the set is completed by Vinny Idol, Trey on da Beatz, DJ Wonda, Supastyles, Nice Rec and Khardier da God. The guests are Sheek Louch, Jadakiss, ItsTheReal, Dyce Payne, Whispers, Cassandra the Goddess and Snyp Life.

There are no particular strong points or solid cuts, behind the keyboards there are so many dudes that you don't understand anything anymore: except Vinny Idol, no name is familiar to me, mea culpa, but it's also an obvious symptom that something is wrong with one of the main sides that make up a hip-hop album by one of the most underrated rappers on the circuit. In any case, there are good jazzy rhythms, some happily midtempo or energetic beats, dark vibes, decent-good samples, the LOX show up (Jadakiss has the "Corona Kiss" solo), but they add little to the project. Among the guests, good Cassandra the Godness in "Backpack Rap", less well Its the Real in the next track, disappointing the choice of Dyce Payne to use the autotune for the sung pop hook.

Almost twenty years of career for David Styles. D-Block, Ruff Ryders, The LOX. I'm waiting for his classic on the next album, because it's not here. As in his 40 projects prior to this one, the production is the really weak part of the record, rather than the lyrics. The lyricism is typical of LOX, Styles maintains his formula and also removes rnb fillers and commercial hits: the final result is dirty and of quality as a Styles P record should be, fifteen joints for three quarters of an hour of listening, but it's not essential, not even for LOX fans.

Rating: 6/10.
