PM Dawn — The Bliss Album...? (Vibrations of Love and Anger and the Ponderance of Life and Existence)

Two years after their debut, pop rnb group PM Dawn returns with a new album. It's hard to believe, but these guys manage to do worse than on the previous record. During this hour of listening divided into fifteen soft songs, nothing goes as it should. Nothing.

Most of the songs are light and soft pop rnb choices, performed by singing, choosing styles different from rapping, including whispering or spoken word, to execute these sleazy lyrics. Rarely, the singer chooses to perform the lyrics in rapping ("Plastic", "Beyond Infinite Affections", "The Nocturnal is in the House") and when he does, the results are embarrassing: his technique is elementary, he's devoid of any sensible metric pattern, he sounds badly in the midst of cheap and weak drums, with disgusting intros and hooks and outlandish sounds confusing and meaningless in the background.

The individuals involved in this mess aren't ashamed (or too ashamed to complete a hip-hop record) and start singing again, the big problem is that they just can't sing. Nor to speak, practically. Over the course of the record, there's some weak variation, there are badly sung hooks everywhere, and even samples and outro sound lousy, with ridiculous pianos. To top it all, "Norwegian Wood": these freaks decide to perform a Beatles cover, the result is obviously one of the worst pop rnb songs of the last 50 years. And of the next 50 years. Horrible.

While not losing their jobs, critics wasted lot of time in praising this bloody havoc, pushing the record towards commercial success: the only magazine that didn't bent, maintaining its dignity, is the heroic "Select". By conclusion, don't buy or listen to this disk: it's even worse than its own embarrassing and grueling title.

Rating: 3/10.
