B.G.'z — True Story

Debut album by B.G.'z, an acronym for Baby Gangstaz, New Orleans hip-hop duo composed of Christopher "Lil Doogie" Dorsey aka B.G., 14 years old, and Dwayne "Baby D" Carter aka Lil Wayne, 12 years old.

Mannie Fresh produces the entire product, guests are Ms. Tee, E. Vicious, Mr. Ivan, Tec-9 and UNLV. It's the debut for both Lil Wayne and BG, children at the time: Lil Doogie participates in all the tracks, while Baby D is present in three tracks ("From tha 13th to tha 17th", "Thrill BG", "Fuck Big Boy"). The tape is too simplistic starting from the cover: lyrically, the kids spit out thug, gangsta and bravado bars, they're not inferior to their older and more experienced colleagues, but their efforts are dwarfed by a ridiculously meager and shoddy production by Mannie Fresh.

Specifically, it's the snare drum — element that will heavily influence the careers of both young performers — to obscure most of the tracks, the beats are more or less decent, with random sounds and south vibes, the snare drum is unsustainable and unlivable most of the time. Short tape, eight songs, thirty-five minutes of listening, it opens with a dissing towards Mystikal and ends with a dissing towards Big Boy Records, and it's the beginning of the collaboration between the artists and Cash Money Records: it's the only album of the duo, formed two years earlier and disbanded two years later at the behest of the head and founder of the label, Bryan "Baby" Williams aka Birdman.

Rating: 4/10.
