415 — 41Fivin

Group formed in Oakland, California, by rappers Richie Rich and D-Loc, and producers J.E.D. and DJ Daryl. The group takes its name from area code 415, which served Oaktown at the time. Richie Rich & D-Loc, who knows how many tapes they'll have bought from the trunk of Too $hort's car before going out with this album composed by the rhythms of J.E.D.

What Richie Rich offers us here, with a second-rate rapper, can't be found around. You don't find it in record stores, you don't find it on Spotify, it's not free music. It's not music for everyone. This is a journey through minimal funky production, decent enough to make you feel slightly satisfied, are the musical vibes that Todd Shaw has placed on his records.

There's so much raw and minimal funky here, a solid, smooth and even dope delivery from Richie Rich who easily dominates the tracks, hooks that perform easy tasks, sparse and minimal drum machines, syncopated and vibrant funky rhythms and phat bass lines. Even if I don't listen to the lyrics, this album gives me San Andreas vibes, I'm on Radio Los Santos, I'm leaving Groove St. to do a drive-by: it's relaxed gangsta rap, and it's awesome. At the end of the journey, Richie Rich & Co. will take you back to Oakland calmly, with some dead bodies inside the trunk half open on the MacArthur and the horizon in front, beautiful.

Rating: 7.7/10.
