Collaborative record for Angel Louis Aguilar and Derek Murphy. Agallah (Purple City) & Sadat X (Brand Nubian) arrive almost silently, without too much noise, without wanting to disturb. For Agallah it's the fifth project of the year, Brand Nubian's MC hasn't dropped a record for two years, but their collaborative release remains mostly ignored by audiences and critics.
The Brownsville rapper and producer provides some cheap and simplistic rhythms in this project, choosing minimal and energetic beats and a generic drum; dark samples should favor their deliveries, but most of the time, they don't. The guests don't convince, and sometimes there's some rhythm, sample or sound that's weak, poor and cheap, which the two performers cannot / don't know how to remedy. Among the best songs, "Universal Law Degree" has a splendid sample, from "Innocent" by Francesco De Masi, returns a beautiful and ethereal jazzy sound, soulful, very pure, without drum, for the spoken outro of Sunez. Of the whole project, I recommend an instrumental version of this cut or directly the original sample, the De Masi song, which is fantastic.
Eleven tracks, half an hour of listening, most of the choices are short and except for the one I mentioned above, none are worth a second listen. Not recommended, 5/10.
