Second effort of Racionais MC's, one of the most important musical groups in Brazil, composed of Mano Brown, Edi Rock, Ice Blue and DJ KL Jay. Yet it's present somewhere as an anonymous effort, how the hell is that possible? What to say, it certainly isn't. It's not despite two other versions of the opening track and "Negro limitado" which closes this short project, an EP.
It seems to be random, and instead it's right in the middle between the group's debut EP, which suddenly shook the music scene of San Paolo and lit a faint light in the darkness of the poor city favelas, and between their album in debut studio, which simply put hip-hop on the map of Brazilian musical genres and made the Country discover this new music.
This effort is unfairly hidden and it's pretty disheartening because it's a sad and obvious sign that culture does not seem to be celebrated. It remains important in any case, the whole group arrives here after opening a Public Enemy concert in São Paulo in 1991, and here it continues to follow the same themes proposed both in the previous EP and in the following LP: Mano Brown and the other MCs face the institutional racism, violence and poverty of the Brazilian ghettos, modern slavery and warn young blacks not to follow the sweet calls of easy life and criminal life, trying to convince them to embark on a life that embraces culture and education in order to free themselves from the suffocating imprisonment of the suburbs.
So yes, "Voz ativa" is present three times, I wish it were there ten times:
"Mas, Racionais, insistentes nunca iguais
Afrodinamicamente manter nossa honra viva
Sabedoria de rua, o Rap mais expressiva
A juventude negra agora tem a voz ativa"
