The only tape credited to Maniac, which offers an effort of 20 tracks (8 skits) for just over an hour of listening.
Especially in the first section, the guy pulls out horrorcore and gangsta lyrics on cheap beats and meager elements, amidst some catchy guitar riffs: this choice doesn't allow this tape to stand out from the rest of the scene present only in Memphis, Tennessee. Maniac himself seems to notice halfway through the work, when he starts heading to the West Coast, with quotes and tributes to the major artists of the scene: on the track "Funky Dope Shit", he even samples "Footsteps in the Dark" by the Isley Brothers, an authentic masterpiece that Ice Cube used to perfection to make "It Was a Good Day". On an honest boom bap with skeletal drum, the MC delivers with confident, slow, relaxed and smooth style. The song that sounds best in the first section is "Kiss My Ass", which boasts ethereal vibes thanks to good samples and an effective downtempo drum, rhythm on which the rapper sounds worthily. The first part goes quite well, however, in the second one, he falls into the generic pimpin', getting lost in a fascinating inconsistency in an attempt to chase the sounds and themes of LA and the Bay Area. 6/10.
