What initially sounds like random noise or something like that, turns into a wonderfully rich soundscape as you listen to it. Of Filipino descent, Richard "DJ Q-Bert" Quitevis grew up in San Francisco and became fan of the turntablist. He comes with a debut studio album from three consecutive titles as a DMC world champion, first as a soloist (1991), then as Rock Steady DJs with Mix Mister Mike and Apollo (1992), finally as Dreamteam with Mix Mister Mike: here, he proves to be one of the best DJs in the world in this seventy-minute document in which he enjoys taking and mixing short pieces of soul, funk and hip-hop songs, movies, comics, video games and cartoons, to then scratch them continuously all the time letting some extracts breathe and managing to keep listening cohesive and fresh. Great job, but the album certainly deserves more spins to be more appreciated.
Rating: 8/10.
