Debut for Joint Mobb, a hip-hop group from Toledo, Ohio, which is produced by Eric Watson and his Atlanta-based Little E Records. Extended play of eight tracks, with intro and central interlude, the role of each person is known, from the guy who cleaned the mixer to the one who attached the "parental advisory" shtick to the cassettes, but production and performers remain in the mystery.
The rhythms seem to be provided by a dude who's hiding behind a question mark, while the bars I assume are provided by the dudes who also write the liner notes: Indo, Lil Ed, Squirt and T-Lo'kk. Indo is also present in the Atlanta duo Gangsta Tribe, which will be released without success two years later, but in general, they're all unknown amateurs that I don't distinguish both in rapping both on the cover.
After a short intro with shooting, the disc is opened by a song that is a bit like the summary of the entire edition: funky boom bap, decent sample, slow skinny drum machine, simple hook, slightly smooth amateur delivery of the performers. The first songs, minimal and with g-funk vibes, are pretty average, however, the record improves in the end, with a more pounding and punchy drum, some screechy synths in the background, and a decent slow delivery. The samples are easy and you can recognize them (Mtume, Curtis Mayfield), the cassette is closed by a good g-funk bridge relaxed on the hook of the final track. Discreet tape, doesn't add or detract nothing from the 9-4 g-rap scene.
Rating: 6/10.
