Murs & Dee-1 — He's the Christian, I'm the Rapper

Collaborative studio album between Murs & Dee-1. For the Los Angeles rapper it's project number twenty-one under this moniker, at this point in his career, he has a number of albums close to that of veteran KRS-One, but with far fewer classic LPs.

While for the New Orleans rapper it's the second absolute studio work, after making his debut in the game in 2009. The two MCs share the rapping duties, while the production is entirely entrusted to Curtiss King. The cover is a tribute to Fresh Prince & DJ Jazzy Jeff's cult record "He's the DJ, I'm the Rapper", however, the album is completely ignored by both audiences and critics alike.

The record consists of 11 songs and a total of about 39 minutes: arriving here with expectations of some kind, you can only be disappointed. Murs & Dee-1 release some religious excerpts, but musically the album struggles: the rhythms chosen by Curtiss are bad, mediocre at best. He combines lazy and weak drums with mediocre samples, at best decent, creating cheap and poor boom bap rhythms, sometimes midtempo.

The styles of the two performers are sluggish, Dee-1 tries to fuel the songs with his energy, providing a raw and graceless hardcore delivery, while Murs spits bars with a relaxed, slow and regular, often soporific style. Towards the belly of the disc, it folds into scant ballad filler tunes. The record is a bit cumbersome and totally forgettable, one of the worst in Murs' long discography. Not recommended.

Rating: 4/10.
