Crimeapple — If I Don't See You in Paradise

Crimeapple releases his studio album number seven, second effort of the year.

The cover boasts several "natural" elements, but it's far from being the most extravagant cover of the year or the most vicious one. The tape, about 27 minutes long with eight cuts, is similar to the previous one for arguments, production and rapping, fantastic samples, good rhyming patterns, good lyricism, and an amazing clear smoothness flow. On the second album of 2020, I begin to think that the opening track is one of the strengths of this MC: splendid horns sample, male soulful melodic sample, distant light slow downtempo drum, fast and smooth delivery by Crimeapple. The first piece is sublime and illusory, the second continues that illusion, removing the drum and placing light strings on a jazzy rhythm.

The remaining tracks are solid and competent, but for some reason, not as good as the first two songs, despite an enviable production choice and varied and great samples: there's a light harmonica in the third song, while the rapper RLX kills "Pistachios", spitting bars with a confident and flowing style on a few elegant piano keys looped in the background along with a tense, deafening and almost shrill female soul sample. The fifth cut has a dark mood created by a few piano keys and a pounding, hard and slow drum machine, Crimeapple offers with a faster and smoother flow than usual, while the sixth choice boasts guitar pinches and a slightly distorted rhythm.

In "Paradise" the great protagonists of the editions, the elegant piano keys, are back, while "Hold On" presents a tense and dark sample in the background and a male soul sample for the slow rapping of the MC, which offers socio-conscious bars, also paying homage to Nas. Another solid record from Crimeapple, the guy is really in shape and he proves it with this quality release.

Highlights: "Since I've Cried", "Ocean", "Hold On".

Rating: 7.3/10.
