38 Spesh — The 38 Laws of Powder

38 Spesh mixtape consisting of 15 short songs and 46 minutes in total. The production is made by Ready Roc, TFC Exec, Midnite, Black Metaphor, Cash, Dylan Trackz, ROTB, Lil Eto and 38 Spesh himself, while rapping is provided by Klass Murda, Kool G Rap, Green Double, Benny and Lil Eto.

Klass Murda opens the tape with a hook, Spesh's livable jazzy trap rhythm, smooth, slow, crisp first verse, he doesn't completely give up his boom bap, solid joint with nice female sample in the background. The second track is short, intro, good production boom bap jazzy, tense, dark and downtempo, vibes trap, slow delivery. "Risk Taker" has the first of a series of mediocre trap productions, despite the good samples and the thug braggadocio bars of the MC: in particular, "Trap in Luxury" boasts a jazzy trap glossy boom bap realized by TFC Exec, with glossy samples, a commercial hook and a slow commercial delivery, the cut was born for the radio. Midnite realizes the following production, a good jazzy carpet with drum midtempo, female soul sample in the background with synth in order to make the mood more tense and tight, good slow delivery of the rapper. "Stay the Same" features a boom bap jazzy midtempo beat by Black Metaphor and is a song blessed with the relaxed flow of G Rap, accompanied by Emanny's rnb hook and smooth delivery from the Rochester rapper.

Klass Murda and Green Double perform on the next one, a soundscape created by the beatmaker Cash, who's composed of a jazzy midtempo beat with a splendid classic sample, piano looped in the background, dark and urgent, good delivery of the performers. "Motherland" is Spesh's only solo cut in the middle section, good jazzy rhythm with trap vibes, tense and dark piano samples in the background, good rapper delivery. Benny does his magic in "Harry Potter", on a jazzy rhythm with a slow drum, while Klass Murda shows up again at track number eleven: jazzy production, splendid dark elegant piano scale looped in the background, snare drum combined with a second midtempo drum, slow velvet flow by Spesh, simple hook by Klass Murda. "First 100" is a short choice that boasts a jazzy rhythm by Ready Roc with female soul samples looped in the background, drum midtempo, slow delivery by 38 Spesh. The next song is one of the best, shorter than the previous one, soulful female dope sample in the background, jazzy midtempo rhythm realized by Dylan Trackz & ROTB, slow dope delivery. Lil Eto is the last guest of the edition in "Stay Afloat", jazzy piece with dry drum and good samples realized by Eto himself. A tight female soul sample in the background composes the fifteen choice, the last of Spesh, who performs as a soloist.

First strong sign that the Rochester scene was coming after a long fermentation. In the first part, the tape quickly drops in quality due to its average trap section, then goes back up from mid-disk aided by guests like G Rap and Benny the Butcher, and, overall, it's pretty solid.

Highlghts: "Tell You Why", "Money Sex Drugz", "Stay the Same", "Harry Potter", "Can't Show Love", "First 100", "Joy Ride", "Stay Afloat".

Rating: 6.5/10.
