Slim Thug — Thug Life

Slim Thug, from Boss Life to Hogg Life, now Thug Life. He doesn't change his topics, he doesn't change his style, he remains faithful to his fans and consistent to his discography. The cover is a tribute to that of the album of the same name of 2Pac's group.

Ten tunes, half an hour of listening, it's all easy, it's all simple, it's all trap. The production is generic and decent, some random samples, simple hooks and light-hearted deliveries, the guests bring a bit of panache into the tape: most of the tracks are mediocre, the posse cuts stand out positively, with Z-Ro that surpasses Scarface in "Both Eyes Open" and LE$ & Mug that come to help the rapper between the jazzy vibes of "Won't Be Long (Apart)". On the other hand, however, "Paradise" stands out in the negative, a forced attempt to redo the success of Coolio: Slim Thug has the courage to sample the classic, make it become a trap rhythm and make it suck, with Yung Al trying to do something, in vain. There's little else to explore: I think it's a useless listen for heads who aren't southern fans, and even to the fans this effort will say little. 5/10.
