Nine — Cloud 9

Nine's second studio album is produced by Jesse West, Rob Lewis and Rockwrecka, and has guests such as King Just, U-Neek, Father Shaheed, 3rd Eye, Smoothe da Hustler and Bounty Killer.

The album starts much stronger than you might expect and the first quarter of an hour is practically flawless: Bronx rapper delivers hardcore with his rough, harsh voice over good production, jazzy boom bap built around hard, tight and relentless, dirty and dusty midtempo drums, horns, strings and loops that give the songs a dark atmosphere.

Afterwards, the record collapses and returns to having average, pleasant and accessible rhythms, which struggle to stand out from the others, and Nine's style sounds restrained on this tasteless selection. The emcee, like other performers of the period, expresses its dissent towards the artists who take advantage of the gangsta and mafioso genres to ride the wave and sell records through the single "Lyin' King", which isn't adequately promoted by the Profile and that doesn't have the desired effect, so much so that when it reaches the charts, the top ten is opened and closed by two of the most famous mafia rap albums ever. There are two more good tracks towards the end, Smoothe da Hustler feat is guessed, and overall, the record is solid, recommended to boom bap fans. 7/10.
