Third studio album in two years for Chunk, which follows a few months later "Chunk II". Production is again handled by C-Funk, which provides funky West Coast rhythms that are simple and with good samples. The East Palo Alto rapper maintains a predominantly braggadocio and gangsta lyricism, although he's less inspired than the previous effort.
A skinny and syncopated hard thumping drum machine is the backdrop to the simple West Coast beat that opens the album, followed by "Hide Your Face", fairly generic choices. "Something for the Bub" is also quite decent, Chunk delivers with good technique. "Niggaz Get Smoked" gets good g-funk beat, simple skinny drum machine, syncopated, synth g-funk on functional hook, MC's slow syncopated delivery.
The following tune is a kind of ballad with simple rhythm and sung hook. After "Silence on the Air", the title track arrives, with a light jazzy boom bap, dope, let it breathe, then slow smooth delivery, functional hook, light syncopated skinny drum machine. A few Christmas bells looped in the background introduce the track "Money Comes Fast", which features a lean rhythm, a tighter than usual drum machine and a festive and cheerful chorus with decent samples.
The next song has some dark vibes and faster, smoother delivery than before, then "Dying Black Race" is a slow ballad, followed by a slow new jack cut, sort of a second consecutive ballad. This second part seems to keep vibes ballad even when the only guest on the album, Sean T, arrives before the thanks on a stale male sample and heavy drum. Songs number eight and ten follow with their respective instrumentals. Decent album, it hardly has replay value due to its seventy minutes of listening, not essential.
Rating: 6/10.
