K-Solo — Tell the World My Name

Kevin "K-Solo" Madison is a rapper born in Brentwood, Long Island, New York. He starts as member of Rock Squad, group of PMD's elder brother Smitty D, then was kicked out of the group, and served a prison stint, then PMD decides to introducing K-Solo as a member EPMD's Hit Squad on "Knick Knack Patty Wack", from the album "Unfinished Business" (1989).

In 1990, K-Solo deals with Atlantic Records and releases his debut album. The production is handled almost entirely by Parrish "PMD" Smith, with one beat each reserved for Al B, Peace Core and Erick "E-Double" Sermon, that debuts as a solo producer in "Spellbound", the first single extracted from the record.

A quite coherent funky production provided by PMD it's unable to lift this record from the pit of generic products baked during the year: on these simple, minimal and tight rhythms, with some refreshing jazzy elements and few variations, K-Solo flows pretty worthily, delivering mainly braggadocio lyrics with a simple and clear rapping, placing some of his typical grammatical errors in a style that I honestly don't remember ever having cross. Not recommended. 6/10.
