Heaven Razah — Spiritual Scarface

Throughout the history of hip-hop, there have been countless artists from all over the world, who have decided to pay homage to the famous movie by Brian De Palma by proposing their own version of the poster. For his first LP under the moniker Heaven Razah, the Sunz of Man rapper is no exception, he increases the firepower of the poster, keeps the black-white duality and the title in red, and places the Wu-Tang Clan logo on it, stylized for the initial of his name. Production is handled exclusively by Melvin Junko, D-Strong is the main guest with 10 appearances across 15 tracks, followed by DJ Flipcyde, DJ Trickalome and Shyste.

Behind the keyboards, Junko does a great job and brings out boom bap soul and jazz rhythms, enjoyable samples, tight loops, and light midtempo drums, creating a soundscape fit with the delivery style of Heaven Razah and D-Strong. This is one of the first tapes where the rapper starts mixing original and old songs. "Renaissance" is an eponymous cut from the posse featuring Timbo King, Tragedy Khadafi and R.A. The Rugged Man, "Angel Tearz" is an almost eponymous piece compared to the one made with 4th Disciple in 2004 for their collab effort "Freedom of Speech" and possibly is the same track as "Selah (A Thug's Prayer)" from 2010 album "Heaven Razah", the lyrics are the same.

"Ghost of Malcolm" is a remix of the same track in "Gates of Hell" (2014), and "Kingz" is a remix of "Black Kingz" from "Digital Dope" (2015). "Big Bank Theory", one of the best cuts in this excellent record, is also destined for "Brotherhood of the Wulf Vol. 1", mixtape by the collective of the same name created by Shaka Amazulu the 7th: the contribution of Shaka Amazulu and Rubbabandz is removed in favor of an additional verse by D-Strong on an immaculate beat by Junko Productions.

51 minutes split into 15 tracks, D-Strong proves to be a good emcee and Heaven Razah raps at his finest on a fantastic production by Melvin Junko: this is one of his best projects ever and still the best under this moniker, 7/10.
