Special Ed — Legal

Honest sophomore from Special Ed, who drops this effort on the eve of coming of age. His good rapping performed with a solid and regular flow without effort, isn't corroborated by the boring and generic funky-jazzy production made by Howie Tee.

The result is a curious product, Special Ed goes strong on the mic with his slow and syncopated style, but he cannot bring out compelling songs due to skinny and simplistic rhythms: "The Mission" is the best tune here, a storytelling delivery syncopated and fluid by Special Ed, with a good jazzy bridge on the functional chorus and simple hip house rhythm. Overall, the album is irregular, despite not having obvious weaknesses and a pretty regular and fun listening, closed by a reggae crossover.

Released by Profile Records, pushed by a couple of singles ("The Mission" and "Come On, Let's Move It", both entered the top 10 of the rap chart), the album performed poorly on the Billboard charts and below expectations, although it did reach the top 15 of the rap charts.

Rating: 6/10.
