Unique project extracted by the Bronx hip-hop duo Mysterne & DJ 2020, who signs for Gee Street. Twelve discreet songs, lyrics by Ulysses "Mysterme" Quintana and rhythms made by Mysterme, Kay Zee, Rich Nice, Rick Posada, Sebastian Rodriguez, Robert Brown and DJ Nastee, while I don't know the role of Lamar "DJ 2020" Gardner, I believe he's limited to a few scratches.
The rapper's lyricism is quite generic and his delivery style is typical of NY, although he tries to give more variations to his flow, slow, fast or tight depending on the tracks. There's nothing wrong with the production provided by these guys: well-done jazzy boom bap that features several great samples and a lean, tight and often fast drum machine. Overall, it's a pretty similar album to all the other East Coast projects of the same period, which means it's good enough and worth a listen if you're a fan of the sub-genre: different pieces are solid, flowing and fresh, "Can't Fuck With the Record" is the banger of the tape. Great lean boom bap, tight quick syncopated skinny drum machine, perfect jazzy sample, looped piano in the background and looped guitar riff in the background, Mysterme's unstoppable smoothness syncopated delivery, simple hook with bridge, but the beat elevates the whole cut impressively. Classic choice, deeply hidden and completely forgotten by the hip-hop scene. 6/10.
