Mixmasta "D" — Turntable Scientist EP

Dana Mitchell and Doug Rankin record some songs for Phattrakz Recordz, a local label of Greensboro, North Carolina. In 1993 this CD is released, the A side consists of five songs in which the rhythm is made Mitchell aka Mixmasta "D" and the rapping is performed by Rankin aka Flipsyde.

It could be discussed for a long time that these twenty-five minutes (plus more twenty of instrumental in the B side) are of good quality or not, but the facts speak for this effort: this record is raw, filthy, rotten, rusty, in which on a boom bap production rough and tense all the time like a rope, with deep bass, drums with a good lively kicks and melodies led by jazz sounds, a kid drops hard bars all the time by tracing the hardcòre style that was in vogue at that time in the rap scene.

Mixmasta "D" is part of the Bizzie Boyz, a group from which Ski Beatz will come out later, that here co-produces the track of thanks towards the end of the EP. Flypside is a competent rapper who delivers in an orderly way by remaining within the boundaries of the track without making mistakes. Overall, the boys offer raw hip hop that fans of the hardcore scene can only appreciate without hesitation.

Rating: 6.5/10.
