Flesh-n-Bone — T.H.U.G.S.

Debut album by Stanley "Flesh-n-Bone" Howse, rapper from Cleveland, Ohio, older brother of Layzie Bone and cousin of Wish Bone. He's a member of the group Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, the first to release a solo album.

Damon Elliott produces half the album, the other beats are provided by Bobby Jones, Ted Harmon, Rhythm D, Tony C and Krayzie Bone. The guests are Layzie Bone, Krayzie Bone, Rev Run, B.G. Knocc Out, Fat Joe and Big Pun. The rapper takes the dark atmosphere and best elements from his group's latest CD and puts rnb at his service to drop gangsta and horrorcore lyrics on a melodic, lively, fluid, fresh production, which combines excellent guitars, dark piano, heavy bass and sax, making a solid hardcore album where the hooks are among the few weak moments.

The music is quite good in these seventy minutes and Flesh-n-Bone's rapping flows pleasantly quickly, even if the guy is often overshadowed by the guests. “World So Cruel”, “Northcoast”, “Mystic Spirits”, and “No Mercy”, featuring Big Pun and Fat Joe, are some of the standouts. Published by Def Jam and distributed by PolyGram, it became one of the best-selling rap albums of 1997 and obtained gold status from the RIAA in a few months. Recommended for fans of "E. 1999 Eternal" of which this project is a worthy heir, despite not having those hits. 7/10.
