Domino — Physical Funk

Domino's second effort has all the makings of a full-blown sophomore: formerly known as Genuine Draft of the group Bloods & Crips on the album "Bangin on Wax" (1993), the rapper discovers success in the recording industry with his debut album, which obtains critical acclaim and constantly grinds out copies, finishing in the top ten best-selling rap albums and obtaining two gold certifications from the RIAA, one for the hit "Getto Jam" and another for the LP. Three years later, the boy renounces the trusted producers who contributed to the success of his self-titled debut and decides to do everything alone.

His new album, published by Outburst and distributed by PolyGram, is ignored by critics and panned by the few who pay attention, without being able to replicate the commercial results of the past and quickly ending up forgotten. Despite all that, it's a good laid-back g-funk album with some great self-produced beats, competent live instrumentation to accompany the production and an effortless delivery style. Lyrically it's not memorable, keeping his pen on festive, light-hearted, materialistic and sexual themes on a funky, jazzy, sometimes elegant, sometimes sad production.

It's a record based on an already proven formula, which aims for the radio and features many songs for girls, it's slow but it works because it's done well in the end. The relaxed and relaxing ballad "Trickin" is the song I appreciate most in these three quarters of an hour, and the subsequent "Long Beach Funk" also deserves praise, it's a well-constructed anthem, fresh and lively almost in contrast to the previous four minutes. Recommended for g-funk fans.

Rating: 6/10.
