First EP released by 1982, duo composed by Statik Selektah & Termanology, both from Lawrence, Massachusetts. And both born in 1982, the year from which the duo and the EP itself take their name, a prelude to their debut collaborative studio album.
Statik plays it safe with his patented jazzy boom bap and brings out eight tracks plus a decent interlude. The first track has a good female soulful sample, and the underground rapper delivers worthily, in one of the few solo choices. The two mainly call guests who may disfigure in comparison to Term: Kali is the first one, not too inferior to the main rapper, and is decent on Statik's bouncy rhythm, Chase Infinite on the other hand, practically doesn't stand out on a heavier beat. Similar speech for the two guests of "Put It Down", after a mediocre solo song on good jazzy rhythm: Easy Money and Ghetto are part of the ST. da Squad, group of which Termanology is also a part, but they don't do much to stand out, despite a jazzy-soul rhythm. "Word Up" presents one of the best performances so far from Termanology, on a production that recalls Premier, boom bap jazzy, hook with scratches, flow of the rapper clean and smooth that validates the choice. The MC's performance drops in the next track, during which he shows himself subdued, while Reks manages to raise the bar in the second part. The last track is also the best: jazzy boom bap, scratched hook, female soul sample, perfect drum, Mac Miller can kill the beat anytime, and in any way, and brings out great flow. Termanology here comes up with a spatial delivery, sensational song.
Highlights: "The Lottery", "Word Up", "82 92".
Rating: 6.5/10.
