When Goodie Mob's sixth LP dropped, audiences ignored it, although there were several reasons to check it out.
The lineup of the Atlanta group is complete, CeeLo Green, Big Gipp, T-Mo and Khujo, the production is handled exclusively by Organized Noise and the guests are Chuck D, André 3000 and Big Boi. The main members of the Dungeon Family are present, but this wasn't enough to lift the record among the most anticipated releases of the season, coming to the end of a nerve-wracking, draining year that seemed to never want and should never end.
The artists take advantage of recent events to record a disk dealing with current topics such as police brutality, racism, the pandemic, drawing a socio-political effort. The album starts off strong with the rocking beat of "Are You Ready", introduced by Chuck D, where the boys go wild, then some of the highlights come with OutKast, in two separate tracks, first with André 3000 ("No Cigar") then with Big Boi ("Prey 4 da Sheep"), both with contributions in forgettable passages.
The set created by Organized Noise is accessible and leaves no cue, the music is simply there. "Try We" is an attempt at a rhythm close to I don't know what, it's just difficult to appreciate. In the following minutes, songs closer to mobb music and g-funk arrive with "Me Tyme" and the fluid "Back2Back", then the record crosses the hour listening time barrier and closes with minor notes. It's their best product of the last twenty years and it never feels essential.
Rating: 6/10.
