Second studio album released by PiRo, Masta Killa's son. The production is made by Shaka Amazulu the 7th of School of the Gifted. Guests on the album include Popa Wu, Young Dirty Bastard, Intell, School of the Gifted, Kinetic, Shaka Amazulu and Masta Killa.
The disc is introduced by late Popa Wu, on a light jazzy boom bap with slow drum and good sample. "P.I.R.O." is the second cut of the record, light jazzy boom bap, slow pounding drum machine, good rapper's tight, slow and smooth delivery. The next song breathes 2nd Generation Wu and Sonz of Wu vibes, with guests Intell and Young Dirty Bastard: jazzy boom bap with lean and quick drum, string samples, Piro's smooth, tight delivery. Intell boasts a tight and slow style, while YDB offers bars with an eclectic and lively delivery. A.O. Huncho is the host of "Brotherhood of Killah Mutants": Shaka Amazulu offers a "falling" jazzy boom bap rhythm, rusty and dirty drum, sick, dark distant sample, good slow and syncopated delivery of performers.
On track number five, "M.A.N. Pt. 1 (Father 2 Son)", comes the production of RZA, in a track with a Wu-Tang flavor: skit movie, boom bap, excellent sample of tightly looped strained violins, tight and dusty drum. Piro spits bars with a tight, slow, flowing style, then Masta Killa comes along and kills the cut with a similar flow. Shaka Amazulu creates a good rhythm for the sixth song, with a decent sample and a slow and dusty drum machine: good slow and tight delivery of Piro, Rubbabandz is decent, Solomon Childs performs better, with a clean, slow, smooth flow.
The track is closed by Shaka Amazulu, with a slow and decent style. After a skit, the second solo track of the MC arrives, on a simple jazzy rhythm. Kinetic 9 by Killarmy is the host of "Adversaries": there's one of the best Shaka beats here, it almost feels like a late nineties RZA or a Wu-Elements, it's good anyway. Boom bap jazzy, tired, dirty and dusty drum, almost squeaky horn samples, tight delivery by Piro, Kinetic closes the song with a slow and flowing flow. The tenth pick is another Piro solo song, the boy performs worthily with a slow and flowing style on a good production of Shaka Amazulu, jazzy rhythm with dusty and dirty slow drum and female sample.
"Wu-Base" is a posse with Deano, Young Dirty Bastard, Nay Cuffee & Shaka Amazulu the 7th: the member of School of the Gifted samples in a wonderful way "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (Main Title)", splendid initial song of the homonymous soundtrack by Ennio Morricone, author of the music of the homonymous movie by Sergio Leone, a masterpiece in the history of cinema. On this sample and on a slow and thin dirty drum, several rappers alternate: Piro boasts a tighter style than the others, Deano has a slow and raw flow, Young Dirty Bastard is fit, with a raw, smooth and quick flow; Nay Cuffee and Shaka Amazulu close the track, with lower performances.
Choice number twelve is the second part of "M.A.N.": same beat of RZA, Masta Killa opens with a fast and smooth flow, then Tech offers a good delivery, Shaka Amazulu and Piro close. These last two performers also perform "A Decade in the Life of ...": good female sample looped also chopped in the background, worthy of RZA, dirty, slow, dusty and pounding drum machine, very good delivery of the Sunz of Wu MC, here at his best. A skit closes the project.
Released by Black Stone of Mecca, the disc is fairly honest, and boasts some notable appearances between Wu-Tang Clan, Killarmy and 2nd Generation Wu. The beat of RZA is used twice, with profit, even if the album lives of some not too inspired moments.
Rating: 6/10.
