Ant Banks' third studio album in three years coincides with his latest work and closes his contract with Jive.
Banks is in charge of production with Terry T and is the lead performer at the mic, flanked by Delinquents, Gangsta P, 187 Fac, Spice 1, MC Breed, Tempest, Jock, Mr. Ill and Rappin' Ron, as well as contributions from backing vocalists Vickla Brinckley, Robert Toliver, Ant Diddley Dog, Den-Fenn, G-Nut, Stacey Hogg and MC Ant. The production holds up, appears quite acceptable and livable, in the first part of the disc: Banks brings a more relaxed sound than his previous works, closer to that of Warren G's album, sometimes dark, with excellent funky and mobb samples, light and melodic and a drum that is minimal, lean, scarce, hard.
You don't hear the economics of the music carpets in the first part, because there are several skilled performers who express their direct lyricism and manage to fill in the gaps, including Delinquents, Gangsta P, Spice 1, MC Breed, 187 Fac and also the Banks himself. In the second half, with the arrival of several solo songs, the product seems to suddenly and sensationally bend towards a mediocre and quite simplistic sound, which was actually there in the previous minutes, but was well camouflaged by the boys' thug bars. Produced by Jive, the album reaches the top 40 among rap records. Not essential.
Rating: 6/10.
