Ray West & Giallo Point — Walter PPK

Possibly, it was supposed to be the first collaborative project of the duo Walter PPK composed by New York producer Ray West and UK producer Giallo Point. The tape is supported by their respective labels Red Apples 45 and Crate Divizion. It's composed by eight instrumental tracks in which a production by Ray West and one by Giallo Point alternate in the tracklist.

The first choice of the effort is "Carry the Walter", skit on light, essential, simple jazzy rhythm, ethereal vibes, before an instrumental cut, light, simple, dark, circular jazzy beat. "Uptown APT" presents a skit on dark, simple, tight jazzy production, cadenced and minimal drum machine. The fourth track is dark, jazzy with a sixties / seventies movie noir bridge, simple, essential rhythm, frenetic and minimal drum machine.

Skit, then boom bap jazzy well made, intense, dark, on the cut "The Double 0 Code", so far the best tape production. "Double Agents" presents more generic vibes, a dark but opaque jazzy beat. The following opens with a car skidding on the street, simple jazzy and generic rhythm. The usual syncopated water under the usual jazzy bridges; closes a nice light soulful jazzy production, simple, with gentle strings.

Giallo Point aka Barrie Dixon is a hip hop producer from the UK who has collaborated with half the US underground for the past six years, including SmooVth (related to Hus Kingpin and Roc Marciano), Tha God Fahim, Recognize Ali, Ray Vendetta and Eeste Nack. Here Ray West plays at home and does not want to risk, he keeps his formula, all very simple and we go home with a decent tape, just decent. It's worth a listen, just one spin. 6/10.
