D-Flow & Ray West — Three Sides to Every Coin EP

After releasing a project with Party Arty ("Pianos in the Projects"), the Bronx producer Ray West collaborates with the other half of The Ghetto Dwellas D-Flow publishing a new EP composed by six tracks. Entirely produced by Ray West, is mixed by Dave Dar and released under Red Apples 45.

The tape is open by "Invasion", simple jazzy rhythm, with light piano and bongos, sparse boom bap, decent delivery of D-Flow. The next cut is "Henny & Sour" and presents a similar, generic, dark jazzy beat, skeletal and minimal drum machine, simple and tight production, decent delivery of the Ghetto Dwellas rapper.

"Live Life" is a song that has a simple, jazzy, circular, light rhythm, skeletal and minimal drum machine in the background, decent delivery of D-Flow with functional chorus. The instrumental version of the same tune follows, a fairly generic and average rhythm. You get to "Soliloquy", an instrumental track of seven and a half minutes that sees several changes of rhythm, but the beats chosen by Ray West are all little inspired, not to say mediocre.

"Henry & Sour Bonus Beats" presents a raw and syncopated drum machine in the background, a dark, light, tight, circular, simple jazzy beat. The freestyle of D-Flow and Dave Dar is the last track of this long EP: skit, then a short freestyle on a light, essential jazzy rhythm, male soul sample looped in the background, skeletal and minimal drum machine, simple rhythm, easy-going deliveries.

Rating: 6/10.
